Deed Fraud Prevention

The Greenlee County Assessor’s Office is committed to preventing deed fraud. Pursuant to A.R.S. § 11-544, when our office receives notice of a change in ownership, we will send the property owner notification of the change. Additionally, a change of mailing address may only be initiated by a notarized request from the legal owner of the property.

Voters Approve Property Tax Exemption Proposition
Proposition 130 has restored personal exemptions for veterans with disabilities regardless of when they became an Arizona resident or if the disability is connected to their military service. Please note an individual is eligible to receive only one exemption category: widow, widower, total & permanent disabled or disabled veteran; and income and property valuation limits apply.

The Senior Property Valuation Option will be open on January 1st through September 1st, 2026, for the 2026 values. Please see the Senior Freeze link above for qualifications.

Yes! We strongly recommend it. A title company helps ensure the transaction is smooth, legal, and secure. They verify ownership, check for issues like liens, and provide title insurance to protect both buyer and seller from future claims.

HOW DO TITLE COMPANIES HELP WITH DEED FRAUD?
Title companies help deter deed fraud by thoroughly researching property records to spot any discrepancies or suspicious documents. They also verify the identities of all parties during closing. While not foolproof, their experience and careful processes greatly reduce the risk of fraud.

Living in Greenlee County is a privilege and one of the great aspects of living here is the relative absence of serious and violent crime. Our communities and neighborhoods are still places where our children are free to play in safety, people are friendly and neighbors know and care for each other.

At the Greenlee County Attorney’s Office we’re working hard to keep it that way. While we recognize that we have our problems with crime, we believe that by faithfully, fairly and aggressively prosecuting adult and juvenile offenders, we can help keep our overall crime rate low and serious and violent crimes out of our communities.

As advocates for the citizens of Greenlee County, our primary job is criminal prosecution, but we also perform many other functions that improve the quality of life here. We provide a wide variety of services that assist victims of crime including victim compensation programs, restitution recovery, court notification, victim consultation and coordination of victim services available in the community. People who write bad checks to Greenlee County businesses raise the cost of goods and services for all of us. That’s why we run a bad check program which helps businesses recover their losses and appropriately punishes bad check writers.

The County Attorney is the legal advisor for Greenlee County Government. We provide legal advice to the Board of Supervisors as well as all other county offices. We also help fire districts and schools with their legal needs. Through the wise use of grants and prosecution cost reimbursement programs, we have developed innovative funding solutions that have helped to keep costs down and taxes low, especially during the past few years when economic conditions have been particularly difficult.

The Greenlee County Treasurer serves the county in many capacities. The Treasurer is responsible for the cash management of county, school district and special district funds. Duties include collection of real and personal property taxes, payment of warrants and distribution of funds for all taxing authorities, receipt of revenue, debt service payments on bonds and investment of all funds on deposit.

Our goal in the Treasurer’s office is to provide our taxpayers with friendly and courteous service and to fulfill the duties to all entities in an honest and efficient manner.

AZ Point Petition Portal

AZPOINT, the Arizona Protective Order Initiation and Notification Tool, has been designed to help you fill out a petition for an Order of Protection. Through an interview in AZPOINT, you can quickly and accurately fill out the forms that are needed to request an Order of Protection at an Arizona court. An Order of Protection is a court order that is issued to stop a person from committing domestic violence or from contacting other people protected by the order. The portal will also help you figure out whether you (the plaintiff) and the person from whom you are seeking protection (the defendant) have a qualifying relationship for an Order of Protection. Your information will be saved in AZPOINT for up to 90 days. At any time during this 90-day period, you may take the next step of filing your petition at an Arizona court. Until you file your petition at a court, you will be able to return to AZPOINT to update your information if necessary. You are encouraged to speak to a victim advocate before you file your petition. An advocate can help you make a safety plan and give you more information about how an Order of Protection works and how it will be served on the defendant.

Jury Duty

An average trial usually lasts from two to five days. If you are qualified to serve as a trial juror, you will be summoned approximately ten (10) days before your appearance date. Jury Questionnaire

You may receive a juror questionnaire by mail; this questionnaire is NOT a jury summons. Please read the questionnaire carefully before filling it out. These are all important questions which will be used to help qualify you for active jury duty. Complete and return the questionnaire as soon as possible, by mailing to the Clerk of the Court at PO Box 1027, Clifton, AZ 85533. You can also fill out the questionnaire online.

Reporting Instructions

Call 928-865-4242 after 5:00 P.M. the day prior to your report date to see whether you should appear or if your presence is not required due to a postponement or cancellation.
Upon your arrival to the Courthouse, please report to the Clerk of the Court’s Office or Bailiff to sign in.

Please do not bring any children under the age of eighteen (18) to court.

Responsibilities

If you report after jury service has been cancelled, you will not be paid. It is your responsibility to call the evening before your reporting day.

Failure to report to Court for jury duty as instructed may result in your being brought before the Judge on contempt of court charges.

Marriage License

Obtaining a Marriage License

In order to be legally joined in marriage in the State of Arizona, a couple must first obtain a marriage license from the Office of the Superior Court Clerk in one of the 15 counties across Arizona. Once a marriage license is obtained, it serves as a legal license anywhere in the state of Arizona for 12 months from the date of issuance. The officiator must be legally authorized to perform marriages in the state of Arizona. The following is a list of important information regarding the marriage license application process in Greenlee County.

o The application fee for a marriage license is $98. This may be paid in the form of cash, credit card, debit card, or money order addressed to the Clerk of the Superior Court. Payment is due at the time of application.

o Both parties need to be present when applying for a marriage license.

After the ceremony is complete, the license which is signed by the marriage officiator and the parties is to be returned to the Clerk’s Office for recording purposes at:

o The Clerk of the Court does not schedule marriage ceremonies for the courts. To arrange a marriage ceremony, you can contact any of the Churches in the State of Arizona or contact an ordained minister.

o Individuals must be 18 years of age in order to apply for a marriage license by their own consent. An individual in the ages of 16 and 17 may receive a marriage license if the person’s prospective spouse is not more than three years older than the person and either: The person is emancipated; or the parent or guardian with custody consents to the marriage. If the above requirements are not met, the Clerk of the Court’s Office is prohibited from issuing a marriage license to a person under 18 years of age who does not meet these requirements.

o There is no waiting period or blood test required. The marriage license will be issued the day of application.

Marriage License Copy

To request a copy of a marriage license you will need to contact the Office of the Superior Court Clerk at (928) 865-4242. You should be prepared with names and dates if possible. Marriage records go back as far as the 1900s.

o The Motor Vehicle Division and the Social Security Office may require a certified copy of the marriage license. The fee for a certified copy is $35.

Applications for United States passport can be obtained and submitted though the office of the Greenlee County Clerk of the Court. United States Passports are administered through the United States Department of State of the federal government. The Greenlee County Clerk is authorized to receive and submit passport applications. United States Passports are available only to United States citizens or non-citizen nationals. A passport is required for all travel outside of the United States, in order to reflect the bearer’s origin, identity, and nationality.

- Check or money order made out to United States Department of State, for one of the fee amounts.

Reminder: In addition to the payment for the type of passport you choose from the charts above, the $35 fee to the Greenlee County Clerk of the Court must be paid at the same time in the form described above.

What to Expect

If you will be traveling to a country which requires a visa (or permission to visit), you will need to contact the U.S. Department of State to complete that additional process. Please visit the United States Department of State’s website for more information.
You will receive your passport within four to six weeks from the time of application for the regular processing, and within three to five weeks for the expedited processing.
Your certified birth certificate or previous passport will be sent to Passport Services along with the application. It will be returned to you separate from your new passport.

If you are required to pay fines, penalties, fees or other financial obligations as a result of a judgement of this court and you are unable to pay, bring this information to the attention of court staff or the judge because payments over time or other alternatives may be available.
